Alternatives to Bandh

Bandh has become a common phenomena in Nepal. Any thing and everything can be a reason to announce and impose bandh on ordinary people. But a huge populace of Nepalese do not support bandhs of any forms. They have a right to pursue their daily lives freely. However, bandhs continue to occur. Organizers of bandha do not care about others freedom of not supporting the bandh. So bandh's in Nepal are not voluntary rather imposed.. Even though the people who call for bandha have the right to protest, they aren't thinking about other general people who don't support their cause. Therefore, some alternatives can be applied to minimize the negative impact of bandhas.

Creative ways can be applied to make bandha more effective without causing harm to anybody. Due to lack of trust in judicial system and delayed justice process, number of bandha is increasing. Therefore, citizen level mediation or justice committee may help to solve lots of protests because organizers of bandha should know that the effect of bandha is seen only for a day, not in long term.

You can start resisting bandha in your community. For this, you can declare your place as a bandha free zone. Your office, shops, neighbourhood etc. may print a poster which reads - Organizers of Bandha are not allowed. This way, the organizers of bandha will be seen as social criminal that may help in minimizing bandhas.
